Abstract: Vertex operator algebras are algebraic objects motivated by conformal field theory in physics. In this talk, I will discuss some simple examples of vertex operator algebras based on the Virasoro Lie algebra. I will also discuss some of my recent work on realizing some of these vertex operator algebras over the integers. The integral forms that I will discuss allow the construction of vertex operator algebras over fields of prime characteristic and also may have interesting finite automorphism groups.
