Abstract: For a complex projective variety, Lawson defined the so called Lawson homology by endowing a well behaved topology, the Chow topology, on the groups of algebraic cycles. In this talk, first we review the definition and basic properties of Lawson homology. Then we focus on the case of abelian varieties and establish a primitive decomposition theorem. Finally, we discuss the relations of several conjectures, including the vanishing conjecture of Beauville type and the hard Lefschetz conjecture.
