Abstract: The notion of an affine Deligne-Lusztig variety was first introduced by M. Rapoport when he studied the reduction modulo p of Shimura varieties. In the seminar, we will give a very brief introduction to affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. Specifically, we will first introduce the background, and then explain an approach (by X. He) to study them. At last, we will see some recent progresses.
