Abstract: The isoperimetric profile of a Riemannian manifold contains much geometric information. It is intimately linked with the curvature of the manifold. It also contains useful analytic information, being related to the Sobolev constant of the manifold. I will describe a weak differential inequality (in the form of a viscosity equation) for the isoperimetric profile on surfaces using variational techniques and make some remarks on it's use in studying curvature flows.
