Abstract: The Kato square root problem on Euclidean space persisted as an open problem for over 30 years before it was finally resolved in 2002. Since then, there has been a desire to understand versions of this problem in the presence of geometry. I will give some motivations as well as a history of this problem, recent results in various geometric settings, and highlight possible connections to geometric flows and PDE.
