In this talk, I will introduce some applications of mean field theory and renormalization theory to Gromov-Witten type theories. This provides a proof of Itzykson-Zuber’s ansatz, which describes the polynomial structure of higher genus free energies of 2D topological gravity, and gives some closed formulas of free energies in various Gromov-Witten type theories. Some generalization of this work will be also discussed. This talk is based on my joint works with Jian Zhou and Shuai Guo.
