Abstract:

In these survey lectures, we discuss the quantisation of gauge theory and various aspects of the quantised theory, including the theta-angle, Witten effect and electric-magnetic duality. We consider Vafa-Witten theory and Kapustin-Witten theory as examples. We emphasize the role played by the topology of fibre bundles and the resulting concepts in gauge theory such as instanton numbers and discrete electric, magnetic fluxes.
