Abstract: Hermitian matrix models have been the center of research in string theory for many years. It happens to be closely related to enumeration of embedded graphs on surfaces, and leads to connections with 2D topological gravity and intersection theory on moduli spaces of curves. In 1992, M. Kontsevich constructed a combinatorial model, known as the Kontsevich matrix model, that expresses the tautological intersections as sums over trivalent graphs on genus g topological surface. In this talk, we will first look at some known results about the connection between one-matrix model and counting of certain tuples of permutations, and then investigate different representations of the Kontsevich matrix model.
