Some Moduli Spaces Birational to Modular Varieties of Orthogonal and Unitary Type

I will present some examples of moduli spaces which are birational to modular varieties of orthogonal and unitary type. Examples may include curves of genus three and four, cubic surfaces, sextic curves and so on. Sextic curves provide a lot of examples. If time permits, I will also introduce comparisons between GIT compactifications and arithmetic compactifications.
