In this talk, I will introduce the collective behavior of social insects with a focus on the nest migration behavior of ants. I will begin by explaining what social insects are and why they have been so ecologically successful. The talk will focus on recruitment behavior and nest migration in ants, exploring how simple individual rules can lead to complex group-level organization. I will also present some mathematical models that illustrate these biological processes, and share some key findings and biological insights. The goal of this talk is not only to introduce interesting facts about social insects, but also to demonstrate how mathematical approaches can help us better understand collective decision-making and coordination in nature.
