Abstract: The theory of diamonds and v-sheaves was introduced by Scholze to generalize the tilting equivalence for perfectoid spaces. The theory of diamonds and v-sheaves has already found several applications to our understanding of the local and global Langlands correspondences. Kimberlites are a particular type of v-sheaf subject to some axiomatic behavior. Just as diamonds enlarge the category of rigid analytic spaces one can say that kimberlites enlarge the category of formal schemes. Kimberlites show up in the study of integral models of Shimura varieties and of local Shimura varieties. In this talk we discuss how to think about kimberlites and discuss some of the achievements of the theory.
