ABSTRACT
We discuss what the correct notion of a "Higgs field" should be in the category of polarized varieties. This is done by studying a hyperkähler reduction that extends the classical picture of the scalar curvature as a moment map. We obtain an analogue of Hitchin's Higgs bundle equations, and we present some existence results for this system on complex surfaces.
BRIEF BIO
Dr.Carlo Scarpa is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste, Italy. Scarpa received his Ph.D from SISSA under the supervision of Professor Jacopo Stoppa. His research focuses on Kähler geometry, particularly on the existence of Kähler metrics with special curvature properties, such as (in increasing generality) Kähler-Einstein metrics, cscK metrics or extremal Kähler metrics.
