In this informal talk, I will give an introduction of the back ground of Liquid Crystals (LC) modeling. I will discuss what is defect in LC, why do we care about it and how can we model, compute and visualize it. In particular, I will discuss the LC confined in a cylinder with different boundary conditions and some interesting defect patterns in this configuration.
