We study branching problmes for spherical representations of a rank one Lie group G under a symmetric subgroup H. We prove the appearnce of discrete components in the branching, and we construct concrete intertwining operators using conformally invariant differential operators relating the Dirichlet and Neumann problems. (Joint work with Jan Frahm and Bent Orsted.)
