This is the first lecture and the organizational meeting.

The plan of this seminar is to discuss structures and representations of algebraic groups over a field. Depending on students' need, we will also discuss relevant topics in algebraic geometry and other things. This will be a non-linear, topic-based seminar. The basic reference is "Linear Algebraic Groups" by Humphreys (e-book availabe at https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007%2F978-1-4684-9443-3#toc). 
We will try to make the prerequisites minimal so that students with a good knowledge of linear algebra and some "mathematical maturity" could benefit.
The students are expected to give presentations. 
In the first meeting, I will give some motivations and an overview. We will also figure out a schedule of student presentations.
