Abstract: Kleinian groups are discrete subgroups of automorphisms of the Riemann sphere, which can be regarded as being the complex projective line P^1. The study of these groups is a classical subject that has been studied by many authors. I will speak about their generalization to several complex variables. We will talk about discrete groups of transformations of complex projective spaces of higher dimensions. This is of interest for complex geometry and for holomorphic dynamics. It includes the discrete groups of holomorphic isometries of the complex hyperbolic space.
Bio-Sketch: Professor José Seade received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Oxford in 1980. He has held a research position at the Mathematics Institute of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) since then. His research focuses on dynamical systems and singularity theory. He has been a visiting professor at leading institutions worldwide, including Oxford, Paris, Hong Kong, and the Tata Institute.
Professor Seade has published extensively in top journals, including three research monographs. He is coordinating the publication of a six-volume handbook on geometry and topology of singularities. His honors include the Solomon Lefschetz Medal and two Ferran Sunyer I Ballaguer Prizes. He is a Member of the World Academy of Sciences.
Professor Seade has held leadership roles nationally and internationally, including directing a CNRS research lab in Mexico, Casa Matemática Oaxaca, and UNAM’s Mathematics Institute. He is the former President of the Mexican Mathematical Society and the current Vice President and President-Elect of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
