Abstract:
It is well known that the range of a cocycle taking values inside a group can sometimes be decreased by subtracting a coboundary and a constant.
It is interesting to know if there is an optimal coboundary which brings the range to the "minimum" possible. I will discuss this problem in the context of random walks on R, driven by inhomogeneous Markov chains. Joint work with Dima Dolgopyat.
