Virasoro algebra and conformal field theories

Abstract:
In these lectures, I will discuss the mathematical construction and studies of conformal field theories associated to Virasoro algebra. I will start with the mathematical construction of the minimal models as a special case of the construction of rational conformal field theories using the representation theory of vertex operator algebras. Then I will discuss the construction of logarithmic conformal field theories satisfying suitable finiteness conditions. I will discuss the application of this theory to the logarithmic conformal field theories constructed from suitable representations of the Virasoro algebra (the results of Creutzig-Jiang-Orosz Hunziker-Ridout-Yang and McRae-Yang). I will also discuss open-string vertex operator algebras, their construction and the corresponding boundary conformal field theories.
