Abstract:
The 45 and Up Study is the largest ongoing cohort study of health aging in the Southern Hemisphere. Over 267,000 men and women aged 45 and over from the general population of the state of New South Wales, Australia were recruited. The 45 and Up Study provides researchers with rich and reliable information on a wide range of exposures and outcomes for the investigation of many different causes of morbidity, mortality and use of healthcare services. Further, questionnaire data from study participants are linked with routinely collected data from a range of population-level databases and registers. This talk will cover several case studies where we use the 45 and Up questionnaire data, linked with administrative databases, to answer important research questions relating to healthy aging. We also consider some of the methodological issues that arise in the analysis of data, in particular, we assess the potential impact of non-ignorable non-response at follow-up survey on study conclusions.
