ABSTRACT:
The theme for this semester is geometry and topology of surfaces. We plan to read most part of A. F. Beardon's book "The Geometry of Discrete Groups", and invite the participants to present various related topics. In this first meeting, I will give a general introduction of the scope and some background. We will also decide a rough time schedule for future meetings.
