Title: On a subfactor generalization of Wall's conjecture

Abstract: In 1960s G.E.Wall conjectured that the number of maximal subgroups of a finite group is bounded by the order of the group. In this talk I will describe a subfactor generalization of Wall's conjecture and partial confirmation in examples ranging from groups, Hopf algebras,fusion categories and even conformal field theory. The talk is based on joint work with R. Guralnick and discussions with V. Jones.
