The recent experimental discovery of topological insulators is mathematically interesting, because of Toeplitz index-theoretic ideas which mediate the so-called bulk-boundary correspondence --- this may be understood as a K-theoretic duality. I will also discuss some remarkable new topological T-dualities, inspired by topological phases of matter in physics.
