Abstract:
Serre's modularity conjecture predicts that certain irreducible residue Galois representation r arises from automrphic forms. The weight part of Serre's conjeture concerns about the set of weights of automorphic forms from which r arises. Recent progress shows that the weight part of Serre's conjecture appears (at least conjecturally) one important piece of p-adic Langlands program. In this series of talks, we will review the ideas and methods around this conjecture. In particuar, we will sketch the strategy to prove the case of GL(2) (with some mild technical restrictions), and discuss some ideas to approach GL(n), for n >= 3.
