Abstract: A cluster type variety is a compactification of an algebraic torus for which the volume form has no zeros. In this talk, we will introduce the concept of cluster type varieties and explain how this concept generalizes previous concepts in the literature. Then, we will study the connection between Fano varieties and cluster type geometry. We will explain that most del Pezzo surfaces and smooth Fano threefolds are cluster type.
