Abstract: This course will discuss the 2-representation theory of Lie algebras: this is a setting where actions of Lie algebras on vector spaces are replaced by actions on categories. A new class of Hecke algebras arises, associated with a quiver. We will discuss the highest weight theory of 2-representations, the construction of specific 2-representations (based on representations of symmetric groups for example) and the relation between canonical bases and projective indecomposable modules for quiver Hecke algebras, using the geometry of quiver varieties
