Abstract: 

Riemann's classification of algebraic curves is a profound theory in mathematics. The moduli spaces of curves provide us the modular invariants for families of curves, which are important tools for studying Diophantine problems in number theory. In recent years, the modular invariants have also been applied in differential equations and cubic equations. We will talk about the history, latest developments, and open problems in this research.

报告人简介：

谈胜利，华东师范大学教授，多个国家级科技领军人才计划入选者。1984年在湖北大学获得学士学位。1989年和1991年在华东师范大学先后获得硕士学位和博士学位，毕业后留校任教至今。曾获教育部自然科学奖一等奖，意大利国际理论物理中心的ICTP奖等。获得全国优秀教师和上海市教书育人楷模等称号，全国高校黄大年式教师团队负责人，获华东师范大学教书育人杰出贡献奖。主要研究方向是代数几何。
