Abstract:
Rigid cohomology is a Weil cohomology theory for varieties over fields of positive characteristics. It behaves much better than its relative - crystalline cohomology, in terms of open and singular varieties, however with the drawback that its coefficients have to be rational. In this talk, we will introduce this cohomology theory, discuss its extension, and finally present two of my own results whose statements do not involve rigid cohomology but whose proofs crucially use it.
