This talk is devoted to elaborating on construction of structure-preserving algorithms for Maxwell’s equations with dissipation terms. The topics to be included in this talk are:

1. What is a Birkhoffian system, and the difference between it and Hamiltonian system?

2. What is a Birkhoffian structure-preserving scheme?

3. Generating function and functional methods applied to construction of Birkhoffian structure-preserving scheme.
